ChatGPT: a flexible everyday business assistant
ChatGPT is a strong general starting point for drafting, research, analysis, brainstorming, summarizing documents, and helping people think through work. It becomes more valuable when your team has clear instructions, approved source material, and repeatable ways to use it.
It is a fit when the work still benefits from a person guiding the conversation and reviewing the result.
ChatGPT Work: longer, multi-step assignments
ChatGPT Work is designed for work that goes beyond a single answer. It can research, work across connected files and applications, and produce finished deliverables. Think reports, presentations, spreadsheets, audits, or recurring projects that normally require several separate steps.
It may be useful when you want to delegate an outcome while keeping approval points around important actions.
ChatGPT workspace agents: repeatable work for a team
Workspace agents are designed around repeatable workflows. A business can create an agent once, connect approved tools and knowledge, share it with the team, and potentially schedule recurring work.
The opportunity is consistency. The caution is access: permissions, connected accounts, and the information an agent can reach need to be designed deliberately.
Claude: thoughtful work with language and documents
Claude is another general AI assistant and can be especially useful for careful writing, synthesis, analysis, and document-heavy work. As with ChatGPT, results depend on the quality of the context, instructions, and review process you give it.
Claude Cowork: delegated knowledge work
Claude Cowork is aimed at nontechnical work across files and applications. It can assemble information, organize source material, extract data from documents, and return a finished draft for review.
It is worth considering when your team spends hours moving information between documents, building first drafts, or assembling material before the real judgment begins.
Claude Code: building and changing software
Claude Code is built for software work. It can read a codebase, make changes across files, run tests, and help turn a described requirement into working software.
You do not need to become a developer to see why this matters. It can reduce the distance between a business idea and a custom tool—but the build still needs clear requirements, testing, security decisions, and someone accountable for the result.
When an off-the-shelf AI tool is not enough
Sometimes the problem is not answering a question or producing a document. The problem is the handoff between five systems, the spreadsheet no one trusts, the intake process that drops leads, or the document review that consumes hours.
That may require an automation, a configured agent, an integration, or focused custom SaaS. The right answer could also be much simpler. Good consulting should help you avoid both underbuilding and overbuilding.
